AFUED, Canadian Educational council signs MOU for establishment of International career centre in the Institution: The Management of the Adeyemi Federal University of Education (AFUED) Ondo, has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU), with the Canadian Educational Council (CEC) to establish a World class Career Centre in the Institution. The signing of the MOU was preceded earlier with a meeting held with the Management of the University on December 18, 2025 by the representative of the CEC, Dr. Adeniyi John. Speaking during the meeting held with the members of Management of the University, and the representative of the Canadian Educational Council, Dr. Adeniyi John, the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Bayode Isaiah Popoola, thanked the visitors for finding the institution worthy as one of the beneficiaries of its career centre establishment. The University Administrator described the gesture as landmark in the institution, stating that the development would create good opportunities for students and staff to develop their potentials. Prof. Popoola expressed optimism that when fully operational, the Career Centre would not only transform career landscape of our students, and staff, but also put them in the right path for attaining better life. “I am glad to witness this milestone, this Career Centre will not only equip our students and staff, but will also put the University on the global map. I am sure that our students will utilize this opportunity, and their turnout will be encouraging and we will give you necessary support to make this initiative work out” he stated. Responding, the leader of the delegates, from the Canadian Education Centre, Dr. Adeniyi John, appreciated the Vice Chancellor and members of the University management for the love they have for the students and growth of the institution, stating that the career centre, would not only benefit the students, and staff but also members of the host community. His words: “One of the biggest challenges people face in Africa today, most especially, our youth is their mindset, hence the core objectives of this career centre, is to change their mindset and empower them with skills that are necessary for works in global communities”. He, therefore, urged Management of the University to ensure that students of the institution graduate with skills that would help them get jobs, and compete internationally after their graduation. Dr. John further stated that “we will ensure that the students become useful and productive for themselves, their country, and the world at large, because “everyone needs collaboration to grow”. The meeting which was held on Wednesday 21st January, 2026 at the Vice Chancellor’s Office in the University, had in attendance Principal Officers of the institution, including the Deputy Vice Chancellor, Prof. Ireti Alao; Registrar, Mrs. Olufisayo Fakorede; Bursar, Mrs. Taiwo Adedoyin and the University Librarian, Dr. Azino Akpokurerie. AFUED, Canadian Education Council set to establish International Career Centre.: Adeyemi Federal University of Education (AFUED) Ondo has entered into a strategic partnership agreement with the Canadian Education Council (CEC), to establish an International Career Centre (ICC) aimed at strengthening career development, employability, and job readiness among students and recent graduates of the institution. Speaking at a meeting held with members of Management of the University the rrepresentative of the Canadian Education Council, Dr. Adeniyi John, stated that the ICC when fully operational would serve as a structured platform for aligning academic outcomes with global workforce expectations. According to him, through the initiative, students of the University would be better equipped with relevant skills, practical exposure, and internationally recognised credentials, needed “to succeed in today’s competitive labour market, both locally and globally.” Dr. Adeniyi further stated that the centre would deliver a range of targeted interventions, focusing on career guidance and structured employability programmes. “These initiatives will support students through professional career counselling, workplace readiness, training, and tailored employability support, aligned with industry demands. In addition, the centre will provide access to local and international internship, and employment opportunities, enabling students and graduates to gain hands-on experience and build valuable professional networks.” he stated. The CEC representative also added that the key feature of the partnership is the introduction of employability and skill gap assessments, aligned with international standards, which would help participants to identifying areas for improvement and meet globally accepted benchmarks. In addition, he also stated that the centre also aimed at preparing students for the CEC International Employment Licence, a digital and verifiable credential trusted by employers worldwide to validate job readiness and employability. He further explained that to ensure long-term impact and sustainability, the partnership includes capacity building for university career and placement officers, equipping them with modern tools, methodologies, and global best practices for delivering effective career services.” Similarly, he added that under the agreement, the Canadian Education Council would provide technical expertise, an internationally benchmarked employability framework, and a secure digital credentialing system while AFUED would in turn, facilitate student engagement, provide physical infrastructure and furniture for the centre, and integrate its activities within its operations. Responding, the AFUED Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Bayode Isaiah Popoola expressed sincere appreciation to the representatives of CEC for their readiness to collaborate with the university for enhancement of enhancing knowledge and global exposure among its students. Prof. Popoola acknowledged the need for reforms that align with higher education and global employment standards. He further highlighted the importance of international academic partnerships in preparing students for a rapidly globalizing world and commended the Canadian Education Council for its commitment to academic excellence, student development, and cross-cultural learning. “This collaboration is a significant step toward enriching our students’ academic experience. The initiatives introduced through the Canadian Education Council will provide our students with greater exposure to international education systems, research opportunities, and global best practices”. “The collaboration is expected to play a key role in empowering students with global competencies and fostering a culture of academic excellence at the university.” he said, the event which held at the Old Council Chamber of the Vice Chancellor Office on the 18th of December, 2025 had in attendance the Principal Officers including the Deputy Vice Chancellor, Prof. Ireti Alao; the Registrar, Mrs. Olufisayo Fakorede; the Bursar, Mrs. Tawio Adedoyin; and the University Librarian, Dr. Azino Akpokurerie. Popoola unveils plans for advancement of AFUED in 2026 : The Vice-Chancellor of the Adeyemi Federal University of Education (AFUED) Ondo, Prof. Bayode Isaiah Popoola, has dropped hints of plan by his administration to embark on the implementation of strategic programmes, aimed at elevating the institution to greater heights in year 2026. Addressing staff and students of the University during the New year 2026 prayer meeting, which held on Monday January 5, 2026 in the institution, Prof. Popoola, expressed gratitude to God, for all the achievements recorded in year 2025 in the University before and after his assumption of duty as the head of the institution. He listed the achievements to include the upgrade of the institution from College of Education to a full-fledged University, successful processing and approval of backlog of graduating students results for both NCE and Degree by the senate of the University, payment of five months salary of newly recruited staff of the University, appointment of new Deputy Vice-Chancellor and protection of lives of 18 students of the institution, who were going for the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) orientation programme, after they were alleged to have died in a road crash by a fake on-line media report. Speaking further on the year 2025, the University Administrator added successful completion of teaching practice, as well as promotion exercise of majority of staff of the institution as other areas where achievements were recorded in the University. On plans for the advancement of the institution in year 2026 by his administration, Prof. Popoola expressed optimism, saying year 2026 would bring greater achievement and possibilities. His words: “As we look forward to 2026, I want to assure you that this administration will pursue an agenda of progress, consolidation, innovation and people oriented development. “We shall ensure regular payment of workers salary, clear all staff indebtedness, prioritize staff welfare, provide conducive living environment for our students and ensure seamless processing of their results” he remarked. Speaking on development of academic staff, Prof. Popoola said his administration, would work to ensure that members of academic staff are given opportunities, that would enable them embark on ground breaking research in year 2026. In addition, the University Administrator disclosed plan to embark on the completion of all on-going and abandoned projects as well as engaged in the recruitment of additional staff, while attention would also be given to the plight of adhoc staff in the institution. Prof. Popoola also stated that his administration would ensure peaceful co-existence with the Ondo host community, work for the improvement of the institutions webometric ranking “in order to ensure that AFUED becomes visible globally in teaching, research and innovations, strengthen the institution’s Internally Generated Revenue through innovations, partnership and new programmes, stating that the goals reflects his administration’s determination to elevate AFUED to world class status to become an institution that would shape minds, drives innovations and contribute meaningfully to national development. The University Administrator, therefore, enjoined staff of the University, to embrace unity, diligence, integrity and exhibit faith in God, through effective service delivery in year 2026. Earlier in a sermon delivered on the occasion by the General Overseer of the The Way of Holiness Ministry, Apostle (Dr) Oluremi Johnson Falade, he emphasized the need for people to give their lives to Jesus. Speaking on: “2026, YEAR OF A NEW SONG”, the religious leader noted that for somebody to sing a new song, such person must be a “new creature. Quoting several biblical passages include psalm 40 v 5 to buttress his points, Pastor Falade urged the congregation to have good relationship with God in year 2026, stating that God can make a way anywhere. According to him, God can bring innovation and can do what has not been done before. He therefore, advised the congregation to move closer to God in the new year, so that “They can sing a new song”. Also, at another prayer session held at the University mosque, the Chief Imam of Ondo Kingdom, Alhaji Bashir Alimi, commended the Management of the institution for ensuring peaceful co-existence among people of different religions in the University. The highly revered Islamic cleric, stressed the need for people in position of authority, to exhibit good character during the period of their stewardship. He lauded staff and students of the institution for religious tolerance, and stressed the need for them to continue to support management of the University, in their efforts at advancing its progress. Also in his admonition, the Chief Imam of the Adeyemi Federal University of Education, Ondo Mosque, Dr. Ismail Odeniyi, stressed importance of exhibiting justice and trustworthiness by people in society, stating that through this they would be able to enjoy Allah’s blessing and leave good legacy behind. Similarly, the Chairman, AFUED Ondo Muslim Community, Prof. Rasheed Oloyede, described Islam as religion of peace and stressed the need for people to shun any act capable of undermining the tenet of the Holy Quran. Oloyede assured the university management of the support and cooperation of the Muslim Community. Responding, the AFUED VC, Prof. Popoola thanked the Chief Imam of Ondo Kingdom, Alhaji Bashir Alimi and members of the Muslim Community for their contributions to the development of the University. He assured of his administration’s readiness to continue to implement good programmes, that would elevate the university to greater heights, while appealing for continued cooperation and support from members of the Muslim Community. The two spiritual activities held simultaneously, at the Olusegun Obasanjo Auditorium and the University Mosque respectively, featured bible reading, Quaranic recitations, as well as offering of prayers for the University Management, its staff and students and success of all the activities outlined to be held in the University in year 2026. Eminent personalities present on the occasion included religious leaders,- Pastor Oluremi Johnson Falade, Chief Imam of Ondo Kingdom, Alhaji Bashir Alimi, Principal Officers of the University: Vice Chancellor, Prof. Bayode Isaiah Popoola, Deputy Vice Chancellor, Prof. Ireti Folasade Alao; Registrar, Mrs. Olufisayo Fakorade; Bursar, Mrs. Taiwo Adedoyin and Librarian, Dr. Azino Oscarad Akpokuriere. FG set to install solar power plant in AFUED – VC : The Vice- Chancellor, Adeyemi Federal University of Education (AFUED) Ondo, Ondo State, Prof. Bayode Isaiah Popoola, has dropped a hint by the Federal Government of Nigeria, to install solar power plant in the institution. Prof. Popoola made the disclosure on Wednesday December 10, 2025 while speaking at an orientation programme organised by the University’s Division of Student Affairs (DSA), for newly admitted students into the institution for the 2025/2026 academic session. Speaking on the solar power plant, the University Administrator, lauded the Federal Government for the initiative, noting that when fully operational, the project would help in alleviating problem associated with epileptic power supply in the institution. His words: “The Federal Government has identified this university, among the ones that were identified, six were chosen and AFUED is one of them. they are going to install a solar power plant in our university so that we don’t have to depend only on electricity from the national grid for our energy supply. “That project has already started and I am sure that in your tenure as students, it is going to be completed so that we can have 24/7 power supply in the university. “It is a Federal Government project and we are monitoring it, because we want to see that it is well delivered”, he remarked. Prof. Popoola, congratulated the newly admitted students and advised that they make judicious use of the admission opportunity given to them by being responsible during their stay in the university. In addition, the University Administrator, urged them to see a University beyond the horizon of a secondary school, where he said activities are regimented, by devoting more time to their studies, and obeying all rules and regulations. He warned the new entrants against indulging in negative acts such as cultism, violence, crimes, examination malpractice as well as drug abuse, which he said could bring the name of the institution into disrepute, saying “if you are caught in any of these, you will be disciplined”. Emphasising importance of hard work, Prof. Popoola admonished new students to pay greater attention to their academic development, and make effective use of facilities provided in the university to enhance learning. “You must remember your priority, which is your academic work. In addition, you must make effective use of facilities such as the Library and other academic resources that are put together in the University to make sure that you have academic development and desire for growth”, he stated. Prof. Popoola commended the Dean, Division of Student Affairs (DSA) in the University, Dr. (Mrs) Justina Ogboru and other staff in the Division as well as the institution, for organizing the orientation and advised the newly admitted students to avail themselves of opportunities available at the DSA by seeking for any assistance when needed. Earlier in her address of welcome, the DSA, AFUED, Dr. (Mrs) Justina Ogboru, explained that the orientation programme was organised for the purpose of providing the new students with necessary information that would guide their conduct and uplift their academic progress during their sojourn in the University. Ogboru advised the new entrants to behave responsibly by obeying rules and regulations concerning dress code, membership of student associations, as well as orderly behaviour in the institution. The AFUED DSA, expressed appreciation to Management of the University for provision of necessary support, and gratitude to all the resource persons who presented papers during the exercise. The five-day programme, which held at the Babatunde Ipaye lecture theatre and the sports complex in the University featured presentation of papers on various topics which include “The Youth and Social Media”, Understanding the course unit system in the university”, Student Activities, Voluntary organisations, Time Management and Counselling Services”, “Entrepreneurship and Vocational Development” as well as “Campus Culture, Ethics and Relationship with University Authority”. Others are, “You and Ondo Community”, “Students and Financial Transactions”. “Examination Regulations, Prizes and Awards”, “Sporting Activities in Adeyemi Federal University of Education Ondo as well as students with integrity”, to mention but few. Why road crashes persist in Nigeria by Ondo FRSC boss. : The Ondo State Sector Commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Dr. Samuel Ibitoye, has identified non-compliance with traffic rules and regulations as one of the factors responsible for persistent increase in road crashes in Nigeria. Ibitoye, a Corp Commander, made the assertion in a keynote address delivered at a Road Safety sensitization meeting organised by the FRSC, which held on Thursday, December 4, 2025 at the Adeyemi Federal University of Education (AFUED) Ondo, Ondo State. Speaking on, “Take Responsibility for your safety- Stop Distracted Driving”, the Ondo State FRSC boss, described Road Safety as a global phenomenon, and expressed serious concern on what he observed as high rate of road crashes in Nigeria, stating that the situation has affected the country’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP) and brought negative impact on its development. Ww Allaying fear being expressed in certain quarters about the myth surrounding the last four months of the year – September, October, November and December, which are dreaded for being the ones during which road crashes are usually at its peak, Dr. Ibitoye, said there is nothing to fear “as the ember months are the same like every other months of the year”, stating that what is needed is for everone not to entertain fear, but to take “ownership of their safety, while driving on the road during the festive period. The Corp Commander listed three things, which he said could cause road crashes to include mechanical, environmental and human factors. He, however, singled out human factor as one responsible for controlling the other two remaining factors. Ibitoye, stressed the need for vehicle owners, both private and commercial to pay good attention to their vehicles brake system and other activities such as gauging of oil and tyres regularly before embarking on a journey. He stated that the move would help in averting road crashes. Additionally, the high ranking FRSC official, urged drivers to always be conscious of weather conditions, by ensuring that they drive slowly during raining season and use their headlight when there is poor visibility. The Ondo FRSC boss, however, warned drivers against drunkeness, excessive speeding, use of mobile phones and engaging in other activities which could cause distractions while driving. In addition, Dr. Ibitoye, also advised passengers to always offer word of advice to drivers when they notice non-compliance with traffic rules and regulation, while in transit. He emphasized the importance of obeying traffic rules and regulation by drivers, stating that non-compliance could bring negative consequences; which include imprisonment, emotional trauma and loss of man-hour. In his remarks on the occasion, the Osemawe of Ondo Kingdom, His Royal Majesty, Oba (Dr.) Victor Adesimbo Kiladejo, CFR, Jilo III, represented by a Chief from Ondo Community, Ebenezer Ogunmoyero, lauded the FRSC for their initiative, adding that the move would go a long way in raising consciousness of participants and increase their knowledge in safety precautions while driving. Earlier in his address of welcome, the Vice-Chacellor, Adeyemi Federal University of Education (AFUED) Ondo, Prof. Bayode Isaiah Popoola, commended the FRSC for embarking on the sensitization exercise, stating that the development would help in creating awareness on the need for vehicle owners and drivers to abide with traffic rules and regulations. The University Administrator however, stressed the need for relevant government agencies to pay more attention to the activities of commercial motorcyclists, stating that the move would go a long way in reducing incident of crashes among its operators. Prof. Popoola, urged participants at the sensitization exercise to make judious use of knowledge that would be impacted, expressing optimism that the development would be of immense benefit to them at the end of the programme. The event which brought people from all walks of life to the University was witnessed by some Principal Officers of the institution which included the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Bayode Isaiah Popoola, his Deputy, Prof. Ireti Folasade Alao as well as the Executive Chairman, Ondo West Local Government, Ondo State, Hon. Ayotunde Akinfolarin. Also present was the representative of the Osemawe of Ondo Kingdom, Oba (Dr.) Victor Adesimbo Kiladejo, Chief Ebenezer Ogunmoyero; Representative of Heads of Security Organisation in Ondo City, Members of FRSC Ondo Unit Command, Members of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) and their counterpart, the Road Transport Employers Association of Nigeria (RTEAN) in Ondo City.
