Coop No 1 Society floats transport services in AFUED: Technical education holds key to national development says AFUED VC.: The Vice-Chancellor of the Adeyemi Federal University of Education (AFUED) Ondo, Prof. Bayode Isaiah Popoola, has stressed the need for more attention to be paid to technical education in Nigeria, saying the move would help in advancing the country's development. Prof. Popoola made the statement in a speech delivered at the 2nd National Conference of the institution's Faculty of Vocational and Technical Education (FVTE), which held on Tuesday March 3,2026 in the University. The University Administrator identified importance of Vocational and Technical Education (VTE) in society, saying "Vocational and Technical Education is no longer peripheral, it is central, it holds the key to equipping our workforce, with practical future-ready skills that are adaptive, innovative and globally relevant," he remarked. Describing the theme of the 2nd FVTE National Conference : " VOCATIONAL AND TECHNICAL EDUCATION FOR ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE (AI) DRIVEN ECONOMY" as apt, Prof. Popoola said the intellectual gathering would help in providing insight into how Vocational and Technical Education could be repositioned to thrive in an Artificial Intelligent (AI) driven economy, as well as addressing issues pertaining to Artificial Intelligence, Robotics Engineering, Smart Manufacturing and Digital Technologies, in order to see how they could be integrated into technical training programme, without losing the "human touch of creativity, ethics and problem solving". The University helmsman expressed optimism about the success of the conference saying the intellectual gathering, would provide a timely platform to interrogate issues pertaining to" how to strengthen the nexus between education and industry, so that learning outcomes would translate directly into productivity, employability and entrepreneurship ". Prof. Popoola, expressed the hope that through keynote addresses, lead paper presentations, panel discussions, technical sessions, workshop and exhibitions, participants would ' exchange ideas, share best practices, showcase innovations and forge partnership that can accelerate economic revitalisation and inclusive growth ". The University helmsman used the occasion to advise tertiary institutions in Nigeria to shift more attention from theory to practical, certificate to competence as well as engaging in more collaborations with industries and people with technical expertise, saying the step would advance technological development. Earlier in an address of welcome, the Dean, Faculty of Vocational and Technical Education, AFUED Ondo, Prof. E O Adeleye, stated that the conference was organised to provide a " platform for scholars, practitioners, policy makers and industry stakeholders to engage in robust discussions, share research findings, exchange best practices and propose workable solutions to challenges facing VTE in an AI - Driven world. Prof. Adeleye expressed appreciation to Management of the University, members of the Conference Local Organising Committee (LOC), heads of departments, as well staff of the FVTE for their contributions towards the success of the conference. In a keynote address presented on the occasion by the Director, Information and Communication Technology Centre (DICTC), University of Medical Sciences (UNIMED), Ondo City, Ondo State, Dr. Ebenezer Oluwasesan Olajuyigbe, he spoke extensively on Artificial Intelligence (AI) and listed its uses in Medicine, Engineering, Agriculture, Military, Public transportation and other fields of human endeavours. The UNIMED ICTC Director identified seven challenges which he said is affecting the use of AI in Nigeria to include problems associated with technological gap and accessibility, resistance to change, outdated and rigid school curriculum, shortage of AI-skilled instructors, problem associated with ethical, legal and governmence as well as inadequate infrastructure, equipment and high cost of technology adoption. As panacea, the renowned Computer Scientist, appealed to government at all levels in the country, to prioritize technical education through provision of more funds needed for development of infrastructure. Also in a lead paper presented on the occasion by the Acting Rector Adeyemi College of Technology (ACT) Ondo, Ondo State, Dr. Adenegan Kehinde Emmanuel, he emphasised the need for Nigerians especially those in the South West part of the country to key into the use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in solving some of the challenges being faced in their occupations. Adenegan also stressed the need for degree holders to shift attention from the certificate they have in their possession but to focus more attention on skills acquisition saying "there is a pressing need and strategic opportunity, to reframe education from s certificate and skills -centric paradigm to competencies -centric one". The event, which held at the Obongawan Grace Ekong Lecture theatre in the University also featured delivery of speeches by the Chairman of the Conference Organising Committee, Dr. Muyiwa Ogunsipe, Chairman of the Conference, Chief Akingbesote Valentine Oyeyemi and father -of- the- day, Mr. Oloyede Williams Rotimi represented by his wife, Dr. Mrs. E F Oloyede. Eminent personalities who attended the event included the Vice-Chancellor AFUED, Prof. Bayode Isaiah Popoola; Chairman Committee of Deans AFUED, Prof. Oyenike Oyinloye; Rector, Adeyemi College of Technology Ondo, Dr. Kehinde Emmanuel Adenegan and the immediate past Acting Deputy Vice-Chancellor AFUED, Prof. Olufemi Abayomi Olajuyigbe. Also present were Deans and Directors from AFUED, staff and students of the University among others Canadian Education Council trains AFUED students on career development.: An international organisation, the Canadian Education Council (CEC), has held a two-day training workshop for students of Adeyemi Federal University of Education (AFUED) Ondo. The programme, which held between Tuesday February 24 and Wednesday February 25, 2026, was done in collaboration with the University's Counselling and Human Development Career Services Centre (CHDCSC). In his remarks before the commencement of the training Workshop, the Vice-Chancellor AFUED, Prof. Bayode Isaiah Popoola, lauded the CEC for partnering with the institution in facilitating the exercise, which he said aimed at opening “our University to the rest of the world”. The University Administrator expressed appreciation to the country Director of the CEC, Dr. John Adeniyi, for choosing the University as one of the tertiary institutions to benefit from the initiative, while advising participants to make judicious use of their time during the period of the training workshop. He said: "I would like to thank the CEC and its Country Director, Dr. John Adeniyi for bringing this programme to our institution, which is meant to showcase our University to the rest of the world. “I also want to enjoin participants to take advantage of this initiative because it is not all Universities that has this privilege, anything that will showcase our University is welcome here”, he remarked. Earlier in his address of welcome, the Director, Directorate of International Linkages and Research Development (DILRD) AFUED, Dr. Adejumoke Ale, stated that the Career Training workshop, which is the first to be organised after the signing of the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the University and the CEC aimed at providing knowledge to students as well as educators, in order to encourage self-discovery, promote clarity, develop their soft skills, confidence, motivation and prepare students for job readiness after their graduation. The AFUED DILRD Director, described the partnership between AFUED and CEC as strategic milestone and holding of the career development training workshop, as the demonstration of the implementation process of the collaboration. Ale expressed appreciation to the University Management for support to her Directorate and expressed optimism that the partnership by the University and the CEC, would have positive impact on quality of teaching in the institution. In a seminar presented on the occasion by the National Country Director of the CEC, Dr. John Adeniyi, he stated that the collaboration between his organisation (CEC) and the University would help in fostering global career opportunities for students of the University "to be at par with their counterparts across the world '. Speaking on : “From Campus to Career : The Power of Internship and Career Development”, the CEC National Country Director, noted that one of the big problems currently being faced by degree holders in Nigeria today has to do with their inability to find jobs after graduation. He emphasised importance of education saying for it to be meaningful, “education must go with professional training in “order to enhance employability”. Dr. Adeniyi also highlighted what he listed as current challenges being faced by graduates in Nigeria as including lack of Internet experience, poor Curriculum Vitae (CV) writing, problem of skill gap, and fear of competitive job markets. The CEC National Country Director lauded the University for establishing the Counselling, Human Development and Career Service Cantre in the institution, saying if facilities at centre is fully utilised, students of the University would overcome challenges of unemployment after their graduation from the institution. The two-day Career Development training workshop, which held at the Prof Babatunde Ipaye Lecture theatre also featured the unveiling of the maiden edition of the University's Directorate of Linkages and Research Development newsletter by the Vice-Chancellor of the institution, Prof. Bayode Isaiah Popoola. Eminent personalities who witness the event included principal officers of the University: the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Bayode Isaiah Popoola: His Deputy, Prof. Ireti Folasade Alao; Representative of the Registrar, Mrs. Olufisayo Fakorede, Mrs. Adeyinka Tugbiyele; Bursar, Mrs. Taiwo Adedoyin and Librarian, Dr. Azino Akpokuriere. Others were National Country Director CEC, Dr. John Adeniyi; Chairman Committee of Deans AFUED, Prof. Oyenike Oyinloye, Deans and Directors, Heads of Departments and Units from the University as well as staff and students from the institution to mention but few. AFUED academic staff union honours Olugbeko, ex-COEASU President.: The Academic Staff Transition Committee ( ASTC), Adeyemi Federal University of Education ( AFUED) Ondo, has organised a special Congress in honour of the immediate past National President of Colleges of Education Academic Staff Union ( COEASU), Comrade Smart Odunayo Olugbeko on Tuesday February 17, 2026 in the institution. In his remarks on the occasion, the Vice-Chancellor AFUED,Prof. Bayode Isaiah Popoola, described the event as special and commended the honouree, Comrade (Dr.) Smart Odunayo Olugbeko for contributions made to the advancement of education in Nigeria. The University Administrator eulogised the renowned Union leader for achievements recorded, while serving as National President of COEASU saying " we are very proud of you for representing Adeyemi Federal University of Education Ondo very well at the national level and returning to the institution with honour after the completion of your tenure". Prof. Popoola emphasised the importance of good stewardship and made a case for honour to be given to people who have made meaningful contributions to societal development while alive, instead of doing so after leaving the world, stating that the step would inspire people to put in their best while alive. The University Administrator lauded Comrade Dr. Smart Olugbeko for his contributions to AFUED saying " Olugbeko is always thinking about our institution, he has great passion for the University, and always contributes great ideas that have helped in advancing its development". Describing AFUED as a good training ground for emergence of future leaders, Prof. Popoola stated that the recruitment of academic and administrative staff, from the institution into positions of authority in other establishments at both the Federal and State level, bore testimony of its leadership capacity among its peers. Prof. Popoola expressed satisfaction for the cooperation existing among Management and leadership of various workers unions in the University, stating that the move has fostered peace and orderliness in the institution. Earlier in his remarks, the Chairman Academic Staff Transition Committee (ASTC) AFUED, Dr. Emmanuel Olatunbosun Ajisafe said the special Congress was organised as a mark of respect for the renowned Union leader, who was a member of the Academic Staff in the institution before his appointment as President of COEASU. Ajisafe further said that Olugbeko was being honoured " for distinguishing himself positively during the period of his stewardship as leader of COEASU and as ambassador of AFUED, " who made his marks on the sand of history ". In a special lecture delivered on the occasion by Prof. Abiodun Ogunyemi, a former President of the Academic Staff Union of Universities ( ASUU), he harped on the need for government at the federal level, to always abide with the constitutional provisions, with regards to the funding of education as enunciated in Section 2 of the 1999 constitution (as amended). In addition, the renowned labour leader also emphasised the need for the government to always comply with agreement signed with leadership of workers union in Nigeria 's tertiary institutions stating that the move would foster industrial peace, harmony and reduce cases of brain drain in the education sector. Prof. Ogunyemi also urged the government to allocate more funds to research, stating that no nation can develop without it. He acknowledged the establishment of the National Research Council in Nigeria and appealed to the government to fund it well so as to enable the body to contribute its quota positively to national development. The University teacher, however, urged the Management of AFUED to seek constantly for special intervention from the government stating that the move helps in addressing the institution's infrastructural needs and expansion. Meanwhile, in his response to various accolades said about him, Comrade (Dr) Smart Odunayo Olugbeko, expressed gratitude to the Almighty God and staff of AFUED for honour done to him. He used the occasion to pledge continued support to the University while describing the elevation of Adeyemi College of Education to a University as one of the good news that has brought him happiness. The colourful event, spiced with melodious music production by the University's department of Music was attended by eminent personalities from all walks of life including Principal Officers of AFUED : Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Bayode Isaiah Popoola; Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Ireti Folasade Also; Bursar, Mrs. Taiwo Adedoyin and Librarian, Dr. Azino Akpokuriere. Others were, Comrade Samuel Akanni Akindele, former President of COEASU ( 1996-2000); Prof. Abiodun Ogunyemi, former President of ASUU as well as Prof. Samuel Akintunde, immediate past Acting Vice-Chancellor AFUED. Also among distinguished guests who attended the occasion were Prof. Oyenike Oyinloye, Chairman, Committee of Deans AFUED; Rector, Adeyemi College of Technology, Dr. Kehinde Adenegan, Deans and Directors, Heads of Departments and Units from the University as well as staff from the Music Department and Directorate of Information and Public Relations from the institution to mention but few. SERVICOM Unit AFUED holds a 2-Day Workshop: The Adeyemi Federal University of Education (AFUED) Servicom Unit held a two-day workshop on Monday 26th and Tuesday 27th January 2026 for all its members with a view to strengthening service delivery in the institution. The guest speaker, Professor Oluseyi Ezekiel Awe in his lecture highlighted SERVICOM framework and reminded members of the unit the need to keep abreast with SERIVCOM mandate which entails, service delivery standards, complaints management, and ethics, in order to strengthen effective service delivery in the university. According to him, the reason by government to set up SERVICOM is geared towards improving the quality of life of citizens and to enable the people of a nation to live in safety and happiness. He emphasized core values of public administration which he listed to include transparency, accountability, and ethics professionalism. The guest speaker also enumerated some of the benefits which Nigerians get from SERVICOM to include improving the quality of contact between providers, receivers and promoting excellence in service delivery, as well as improving image of organizations in the eyes of the public among others. The speaker identified some challenges facing SERVICOM to include weak awareness sensitisation, inadequate institutional commitment, resistance to change, and poor reporting culture to mention but few. Prof. Awe emphasized the effect of technology on SERVICOM, especially in the areas of handling of complaints, tracking and accountability, real-time data collection for decision making, transparency as well as lack of citizen trust, and fast response to complaints and resolution. He mentioned what he listed as six identified ethical lenses in SERVICOM to include Rights Lens, Justice Lens, the Utilitarian Lens, Common good lens, the Virtues Lens as well as the Care ethics lens, and stated that they help in determining, what standards of behaviour and character traits can be considered right and good, which brings about integrity, value, moral principles, honesty, responsibility, conscience, choice, fairness among others. The University of Ibadan lecturer highlighted some of the duties and responsibilities of SERVICOM to include periodic submission of reports, collating, analysing, and publicizing all complaints, dissemination of best practices on service delivery and charged the government to pay more attention to the public sectors as it “would promote high performance which is a pre-requisite to achieving the designed result of economic growth, social development, and poverty alleviation”. The programme which held at the New Centre for Educational Technology (CET) in the University, was well attended by eminent personalities including Dr. K. O. Bolarinwa, Mr. P.B Adebayo, Mrs. O.O Bada, Mrs. A. P. Olabode, Dr. E. O. Fehintola, Dr. S.O. Awolaoye, Mr. M. R. Sheji, Mrs. O. O. Olabisi, , Mrs. Owan R. B among others.
