ITF lauds AFUED Management over SIWES support

A senior official from the Industrial Training Fund (ITF), Akure, Ondo State Area Office, Mrs. Grace Ajagbe, has commended Management of the Adeyemi Federal University of Education (AFUED) Ondo, for support given to the Student Industrial Work Experience Scheme (SIWES) in the institution.

 



Ajagbe, gave the commendation on Tuesday, October 7, 2025 in the University, while speaking at a one-day orientation exercise organised for part three Nigeria Certificate in Education (NCE) and Degree two students of the University preparatory to their participation in the 2025 SIWES exercise.

 



Describing SIWES as one of the bold initiative taken by the Federal Government to complement theoretical learning with practicals in Nigeria’s tertiary institutions, the ITF Head of Training, Akure, Ondo State Area Office, urged students participating in the exercise to make judicious use of knowledge that would be acquired during the training in order to improve their lots.

 



Speaking on mode of operation of the SIWES programme, as designed by the Federal Government, Ajagbe said while students from universities would undergo the exercise for six months, those from the Polytechnics and Colleges of Education, would spent four months respectively.



 

The ITF senior official, however, advised participants in the scheme to behave responsibly in order to be good ambassadors of their institution.



 

Also speaking, another senior official from the ITF Akure, Ondo State Area Office, Mr. Fabamise Adedeji, emphasized the need for students participating in the exercise to abide with the code of conduct guiding the scheme.



 

He listed the code of conduct to include the need for them to be dedicated, faithful, loyal and honest at their various places of engagement.



 

In addition, Adedeji also advised the participants to be conscious of their safety by abiding with rules and regulations specified by management of organisations, where they would be engaged especially on matter relating to use of machines and other industrial equipment.



 

He stressed importance of punctuality and dedication, stating that officials from the IFT that would be sent to monitor their activities would not tolerate truancy or any negative conduct, likely to affect the smooth conduct of the exercise.

 



Also in his contributions, Mr. Olorunfemi Olamide another top official of ITF from Akure, Ondo State Area Office, spoke to the participants on issue relating to working documents guiding effective operation of the SIWES exercise.



 

The contents of the documents treated included Students Commencements of Attachment form (SCAF), ITF form 8 and the Log book.



 

Olamide, highlighted the importance of the documents, and emphasis the need for students participating in the SIWES exercise, to pay attention to the details contained in the documents by filling all necessary information, while advising them to seek assistance from three supervisors, which Include Industrial, institution and ITF based supervisors for proper guidance and directives.



 

Earlier in his address of welcome, the AFUED SIWES Coordinator, Dr. A. A Akinkuolie, expressed appreciation to Management of the University for its support and lauded Departmental Coordinators and Supervisors for their cooperation.



 

While advising students participating in the exercise to put in their best, Akinkuolie said this advice is necessary because participating in SIWES “is one of the requirement needed for graduation”.



 

The event which held at the Obaongawan Lecture Theatre in the University was attended by important personalities from within and outside the institution.
