ABOUT DAPQUA

The establishment of The Directorate of Academic Planning and Quality Assurance was approved by the College Academic Board in the 218th Regular Meeting of the Board held on the 30th of April, 2015. The Directorate was established as a unit in the Office of the Provost, to be in charge of Academic Planning and Quality Control in the College. The Director reports directly to the Provost of the College.


PHILOSOPHY OF THE DIRECTORATE

To provide all logistics and supports in preparation and achievement of College strategic plans and goals, and to ensure the quality and standard of input, process, and output of the products of the College are maintained and improved upon in accordance with best practices in the nation and the world.


MANDATE OF THE DIRECTORATE (as approved by the Academic Board)


i) The Directorate of Academic Planning and Quality Assurance will be in charge of Academic Planning and Quality Control in the College;

ii) The Directorate is a unit that guides the orderly Academic Development of the College in the performance of its statutory functions of teaching, research and development as well as community service;
iii) the orderly development, by and large, involves the College compliance with the rules and regulations of NUC, NCCE, etc. The Academic Planning Directorate, among others, collects and analyses information for planning purposes; and
iv) it makes use of the information so obtained to generate reports in form of: • Periodic submissions to NUC and NCCE, like Annual College Budget and Estimates, College Statistics, Annual College Report etc.
• Annual College Budget to Council.
• Periodic statistics to bodies like Federal Ministry of Education and National Manpower Board.
• Statistical output to individual researchers on demand,
v) Included in their report mentioned above are summary tables of:
• Analysis of enrollment figures
• Distribution of students according to state of origin and sex (undergraduate ad postgraduate)
• Classification of graduating students according to department and grades
• Failure rates of final nominal roll
• Classification of staff according to function
• Classification of staff according to Nationality
• Classification of staff according to grade level and function
• Computation of full-time equivalent of students
• Estimations of performance indicators using full-time equivalents of students
• Projections of student’s enrolment figures and the corresponding staff strength
• Performance analysis of College Budget estimates to NCCE and local working budget.


FUNCTIONS OF THE DIRECTORATE


i) Allocative Planning: This function includes the following:

• Collection, analysis, and interpretation of data from relevant College bodies
• Provision of data-based information to the College on various College operations for use by the College as it deems fit. Some of those aspects include information on College/Academic facilities
• Periodic up-dating and analysis of data from relevant College bodies for the internal evaluation of the performance status of the College on all the NCCE approved funding parameters and other guidelines
• Annual up-dating, projection, analysis and interpretation of data for the planning and preparation of the College Budget and the subsequent resource allocation within the ambient of the approved budget. The Bursar is responsible for financial planning and implementation of the financial matters of the College. He works closely with the Director in the production and presentation of the College Budget. Any other College function assigned to it and which has to do with the careful collection, analysis, and interpretation of data for purposes of meeting certain criteria, etc or for providing other College bodies (MIS, PPU etc) information they need to be able to function efficiently and effectively.


ii) Feedback Planning: The Academic Planning Unit also does the following:

• Collects relevant data on changing trends on College activities, enrolments, staff training, and turn-over, etc, and passing such data on for institutional-based research.
• Research findings should be ploughed back to College activities for improvement purposes.
• Ensure that the College complies with and maintains standard, through passing necessary information to departments and the College at large, on NCCE’s/NUC’s minimum academic standards.
• Storage and retrieval of relevant institutional data to approved researchers, especially on academic staff workload, areas of specialization, College’s research output, and recent advances in patentive honorary using feedback for generating operations of the College against approved criteria.
• Participate in College curricula revision and or review activities as well as ensuring that the College complies with procedures and guidelines on new programme development.


iii) Process Planning: This function of the Academic Planning Unit involves:
• Use of the data collected for making projections and advising the College as appropriate.
• Participation in the production and/or revision of long, medium and/or short term academic briefs and or plans and modeling of such plans against reality and College goals.
• Identifying new guidelines and criteria and modifying existing ones etc for annual resource allocation and as the Provost may direct.


iv) Institutional Research, Statistics and Publication: This is another function of the Academic Planning Unit and it includes:
• The collection and storage of publications of statistical nature from other universities.
• Documentation and storing information on the academic programmes of the College
• Analysis and interpretation of College Annual and trend statistics.
• Publications of College records, statistics, and research reports as may be directed/approved by the Provost.
v) Secretarial Services: The Unit provides secretarial services to the following College Statutory Committees:
• Development Committee
• College Research Committee
• Academic Planning Committee
• College Central Strategic Planning Committee
• College Staff Housing Loans Committee


ORGANOGRAM
The Academic Planning Office is located in the Provost’s Office. It is headed by a Director (a senior Academic Staff) who reports directly to the Provost. Other members of staff are: Administrative Officer, Secretary, two Academic Planning Officers (with knowledge of statistics), Clerical Staff and Compliance Officers. The Unit would also make use of Corps Members and students with mathematics orientations on Internship Training (I.T) whenever they are on ground.


FUNDING
The Directorate of Academic Planning and Quality Assurance is funded fully by the College.


DIRECTOR AND STAFF
The first Appointed Director of the Directorate is Dr. Mrs. Ireti Folasade Alao. She is from the Department of Education Foundation and counseling. She holds a Ph.D. in counseling psychology. Other staff in the Directorate include a clerical officer and an administrative officer who are directly answerable to the Directorate’s daily endeavours.
