Ondo Rep. Commended for supporting AFUED

The member representing Ondo East/West Federal constituency at the Federal House of Representatives, Abuja, Honourable (Dr.) Abiola Makinde, has been commended for his contributions to the development of Adeyemi Federal University of Education (AFUED) Ondo.



Speaking during a visit to the lawmaker’s house on Tuesday October 28, 2025 in Ondo town, the Vice-Chancellor, AFUED, Professor Bayode Isaiah Popoola, who led other members of the institution’s top management, explained that the visit was aimed at expressing appreciation to Honorable Makinde for his efforts in ensuring the elevation of the institution to a University.



Prof. Popoola described Hon. Abiola Makinde as someone who has made an indelible footprints not only in the institution, but in Ondo commonly as a whole.



He said, “We want to thank you for what you have done, the essence of the visit is to greet you. Everywhere we go your name usually comes up, we want to thank you for your support, we are highly indebted to you, “and we hope that this cordial relationship would be of mutual benefit to our institution and you sir”.



Responding, Hon Abiola Makinde thanked the Management of the University for the visit and congratulated Prof. Bayode Popoola for his emergence as the first substantive Vice-Chancellor of the institution.



He reiterated his commitment to the growth of the University, and used the occasion to commend past leadership of the institution, especially the immediate past Acting Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Samuel Akintunde and members of his team, for their contributions to the realization of the University dream.



The Ondo Federal lawmaker, while urging Management of the institution to explore more ways of boosting internally Generated Revenue (IGR), stated that the move would complement financial allocations from the Federal Government, and facilitate its developmental process.



The ranking House of Representative member also emphasized the need for the institution to introduce new programmes, and have constant engagements with relevant government agencies and stakeholders, stating that the step would help in advancing the progress of the University.



Assuring the institution’s Management of continuous support, Hon. Makinde said “I will do my best to make sure I support amendment of any bill that will favour the school,” he remarked.



The short visit which held at Honourable Abiola Makinde’s house in Ondo town had in attendance Principal Officers of the University including the Vice- Chancellor, Prof. Bayode Isaiah Popoola; Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Ireti Folasade Alao; Registrar, Mrs. Olufisayo Fakorede; Bursar, Mrs. Taiwo Adedoyin and Acting Librarian, Dr. (Mrs) Adeola Afolabi.



Also present were staff of the University from the Vice-Chancellor and Deputy Vice-Chancellor’s Office, Directorate of Information and Public Relations as well as the Security department.
