Ondo West Local Government confers award on Adeyemi varsity
The People of Ondo West Local Government in Ondo State has conferred an award on Adeyemi Federal University of Education, (AFUED) Ondo.
Speaking at the event which held at the Robert Ware Event Centre, Ondo, Ondo State on Friday October 30, 2025, the Chairman of the Local Government Hon. Ayotunde Akinfolarin stated that the award was given to the University for its contributions to the development of Education, not only in Ondo City, but locally and internationally.
The Ondo West Council boss, however, stressed the need for effective partnership with the institution, stating that the step would help in advancing the cause of educational development in the local government and Ondo state in general.
He lauded leadership of the institution for keeping legacy of excellence for which the institution is known locally and globally pledging the readiness of his administration to continue to identity with the institution in its developmental strides.
In a remarks made at the launch of a book produced by the local Government as part of the activities marking the first Ondo West Local Government Business and Investment Summit which held at the venue of the event, Akinfolarin said “the publication of Ondo West Local Government, People, Places and Prospects for development” is a re-enforcement of the popularly held belief that the indigenes of the local government are unique group of people with special attributes that mark them out distinctly as Ondos”.
He paid glowing tributes to people of Ondo community describing their achievements as outstanding and unequalled saying.“From Eminent persons, outstanding professionals also to heavy weight industrialists who lend their weight to support the nation’s economy, Ondo city also have long list of professors that cuts across board.
“They are listed in Who-is-who in Nigeria, Africa’s Who-is-Who and International Who- is –Who, Ondo City also have Professor (Emeritus), Professors of Medicine, Engineering, world-rated professionals, accomplished Civil Servants, renowned Educationists, Vice-chancellors, Business Moguls among others”, he remarked.
The event sponsored by corporate organisations which included the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Bank of Industry (BOI), SMEDAN and prominent individuals such as Hon. Abiola Makinde; Hon. Moyinolorun Ogunwumiju, Hon. Olumbe Akinkugbe and several other corporate bodies which included Denki Wire, FCMB, Greenwich, NEPC and NibaNola had the presence of eminent personalities from traditional institution, political organisations and reputable educational institutions.
The personalities included the Vice-chancellor, AFUED, Prof. Bayode Isaiah Popoola; Deputy Vice-Chancellor AFUED, Prof. Ireti Folasade Alao, Registrar, Mrs. Olufisayo Fakorede; Chairman Committee of Deans AFUED, Prof. Oyenike Oyinloye; Dean Faculty of Science, AFUED, Prof. Jelili Babajide.
