AFUED women association joins global agitations for promotion of women's rights and justice.
The Adeyemi Federal University of Education (AFUED) Ondo Female Staff Association (AFUEFSA), has joined other women to agitate for equal rights and justice action for all women and girls across the world.
The event, which held in commemoration of this year's International Women's day celebration, took place on Wednesday March 11, 2026 in the University.
It would be recalled that the International Women's day 2026, which was the 115th edition, was held across the world on Sunday March 8, 2026. The theme of the celebration was: "Give to Gain" and Rights, Justice Action For All Women and Girls ".
In his remarks on the occasion, the Vice-Chancellor Adeyemi Federal University of Education (AFUED) Ondo, Prof. Bayode Isaiah Popoola, commended members of AFUEFSA for organising the event.
He identified important roles which Women play in society, stating that the composition of the University's principal officers, where there are more women than men, demonstrate clearly that our “institution is gender sensitive ".
The University Administrator described women as good managers of resources and expressed serious concern over what he described as failure to " balance the scale in Nigeria ", stating that the choice of the theme of this year's International Women's day is suitable, adding that the organisation of interactive session on the topic by AFUEFSA, would provide avenue for participants to " brainstorm on how to make everything balance".
Prof. Popoola spoke extensively on issues concerning “balancing of scale,” “men in women's world”, “why the scale is not balanced” and “roles of men in balancing the scale". He stressed the need for man and woman to work together in unity, saying " It is not good for a man to be alone, we need to work together in order to make the society a good place ".
On why the scale is not balanced, the University Administrator placed the genesis of the problem on the doorstep of men because" we live in patriarchal society, where men dominate ".
His words: "True balance is not competition, it is cooperation, when cooperation becomes the culture, excellence becomes inevitable, women are good managers, when men cooperate with women, the society will be a better place".
Also in another paper presentation, the Deputy Vice-Chancellor AFUED, Prof. Ireti Folasade Alao, emphasised the need for people to make sacrifice both in their homes and offices and to share knowledge and skills with others, she, however stated that in sharing such knowledge and skills they " should not disturbed other people ".
Making case for good parental upbringing at the home front, the AFUED DVC said parents should act as role model to their children by sitting down to share responsibility, saying in whatever position we found ourselves, we should use the opportunity given to us, and ensure that we gain maximally from it".
Earlier in her address of welcome, the President of AFUEFSA, Mrs. Olusola Eniola Olagundoye, stated that the event was organised as part of move by the association to "join the global community in reflecting on the achievements of women and recognizing the fact that equity, fairness and opportunity benefit the entire University community, the home front and the society."
In addition, Olagundoye also stated that "today's Programme is a celebration of inclusivity, shared responsibility and mutual advancement, it is a call for every member of our University community, men and women alike, to participate in shaping a culture of fairness, encouragement and empowerment in our different spheres of influence ", she remarked.
The highpoint of the event which featured brief musical interlude climaxed with the presentations of plaques to the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Bayode Isaiah Popoola and his Deputy, Prof. Ireti Folasade Alao by AFUEFSA.
Eminent personalities who witnessed the occasion included Principal Officers of the University: Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Bayode Isaiah Popoola; Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Ireti Folasade Alao; Registrar, Mrs. Olufisayo Fakorede; Bursar, Mrs. Taiwo Adedoyin and Librarian, Dr. Azino Akpokuriere.
Also present were Deans and Directors, Heads of Directorates, Departments and Units, as well as Executive members of AFUEFSA and other members of the association, staff and students of the University.
