The Vice-Chancellor of the Adeyemi Federal University of Education (AFUED) Ondo, Prof. Bayode Isaiah Popoola, has stressed the need for more funds to be allocated to teacher education, stating that the move would advance development of education in the country.



Prof. Popoola made the statement while delivering an address at the 2025/2026 Matriculation ceremony organised for part-time degree students newly admitted to the Adeyemi Federal University of Education ( AFUED) Ondo, which held on Thursday April 9, 2026 in the institution.



Emphasising the importance of teacher education in Nigeria, the University Administrator, said "since the future of our nation lies in effective and virile teacher education, there is a need to invest in the training of teachers".



Speaking on the matriculation ceremony organised by the University's Directorate of Continuing Education and Part-time Studies ( DOCEPS), the University Administrator described the ceremony as special and advised the matriculants, to see their admission as a privilege and a call to duty.



The renowned educationist also admonished them to give more attention to their studies urging them to take cognisance of the fact that "University education is not what you take for granted, it requires efforts and commitments" he remarked.



Prof. Popoola described AFUED as a reputable institution that has made positive contributions to national development saying" when you talk about teacher education today, Adeyemi is the first point of call because we have a reputation of producing very competent teachers for the nation's educational system.



He reiterated the determination of the University's Management under his leadership to continue to consolidate all the achievements recorded in the institution through investment in infrastructure, capacity building, digital transformation and quality assurance mechanism.



The University Administrator urged the matriculating students to be law abiding by obeying rules and regulations in the University. He said : "I want you to be guided by the highest standard of integrity, diligence and respect for authority"



"When it is time to write an exam, we expect some level of maturity from you and appeal that you avoid all forms of misconduct and distractions that may hinder your academic and personal development" he remarked.



Prof. Popoola expressed appreciation to parents of the matriculating students for their confidence in the institution, assuring that the University would continue to seek their support in all that " we do".



The University Administrator also assured the parents that the institution would uphold its responsibility to nurture "all our students, so that they become competent, responsible and patriotic citizens".



The event which held at the New Centre for Educational Technology building in the University was attended by the Vice-Chancellor AFUED, Prof. Bayode Isaiah Popoola; Chairman, Committee of Deans AFUED, Prof. Oyenike Oyinloye; Director, Directorate of Continuing Education and Part-time Studies, Dr. A. Shuaibu and his Deputy, Dr. M.O Ojo.



Also present were some members of AFUED academic staff among whom was Dr. Rogers Akinsokeji as well as staff of the University from the Directorate of Information and Public Relations, Centre for Educational Technology ( CET) and Directorate of Continuing Education and Part-time Studies to mention but few.
