Monarch advocates synergy between AFUED Management, alumni association for varsity's devt.
One of the foremost traditional rulers in Osun State, South-West, Nigeria, His Imperial Majesty, the Aragbiji of Iragbiji town,Oba Abdul-Rasheed Ayokunle Olabomi, has advocated the need for synergy between the Management of the Adeyemi Federal University of Education (AFUED) Ondo, and the institution's Alumni association, stating that the step would help in advancing the progress of the University.
The royal father made the remarks on Wednesday May 20, 2026, when he received the Vice-Chancellor of AFUED, Prof. Bayode Isaiah Popoola, who paid a courtesy visit to his palace in Iragbiji town, headquarters of Boripe Local Government, Osun State, in company of some principal officers and staff of the University.
Expressing appreciation for the visit, Oba Abdul-Rasheed Ayokunle Olabomi, described AFUED as one of the best tertiary institution in Nigeria that has earned global recognition in teacher education.
While emphasising importance of strong partnership between management of the University and its Alumni association, the reverred monarch said the cooperation if well cemented, would help in facilitating the institution's development and enable it achieve academic excellence.
Oba Abdul-Rasheed Ayokunle Olabomi, emphasised the need for management of AFUED to place more attention on Research and Development in the institution, stating that the move would improve its rating and ranking among global players in education, adding that the development would also place the University in vantage position to access grants, which could aid its growth and development.
In addition, the reverred traditional ruler, who is currently the Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of Governing Council, Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta, Ogun state, South-west, Nigeria, urged Management of AFUED to seek constantly for more areas through which the institution's internally generated revenue could be increased saying the move would complement income received from the federal allocations.
On the planned preparations for the celebration of 62 years of the institution's founders day ceremony, slated for Friday, May 22,2026, the notable traditional ruler described the development as great achievement, and commended the leadership of the University for keeping the dream of the institution's founding fathers alive. He prayed that the Almighty God would continue to elevate the institution to higher position .`
Earlier in his remarks, the Vice-Chancellor AFUED, Prof. Bayode Isaiah Popoola, stated that courtesy visit, was meant to show appreciation for all valuable contributions made by the reverred monarch to the growth and development of the institution, particularly the part he played during the struggle for its elevation from College of Education to University of Education.
Prof. Popoola used the occasion to solicit for more cooperation and support from the traditional ruler, pledging that the University Management under his leadership would not relent in ensuring that the institution achieve its vision and mission.
Also speaking, the Global President of AFUED Alumni Association, Dr. Olowogboyega Festus Oyebade, expressed appreciation to the monarch, who is also an alumnus of AFUED for being a pride of the association and good ambassador of the institution.
Olowogboyega, enumerated various ways through which the monarch had assisted the institution, and prayed that God Almighty, would grant him more years on the throne in his efforts at providing support to AFUED, his Iragbiji community and Nigeria at large.
Similarly, at another courtesy visit paid the same day to the palace of another foremost traditional ruler in Osun state, the Timi of Ede, in Ede town, Osun State, His Imperial Majesty, Oba Minirudeen Adesola Lawal. The notable monarch, who did his Nigeria Certificate in Education ( NCE) Mathematics and Chemistry combination, in the institution and graduated during 1980/1981 academic sessions, thanked Management of AFUED for the visit and promised to identify with the growth and development of the institution.
The event, which featured music entertainment and cultural display was attended by eminent personalities which included some principal officers of the AFUED : Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Bayode Isaiah Popoola; Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Ireti Folasade Alao; Librarian, Dr. Azino Akpokuriere, as well Senior officials from the University among who were Director, Directorate of Information and Public Relations, Mrs. Oluseto Olatuyi and Senior Assistant Registrar, Vice-Chancellor's Office, Mr. Oladotun Funmilayo.
Other dignitaries present included the Vice-Chancellor Federal University of Agriculture and Development Studies, Iragbiji ( FUADSI), Prof. Muftau Atayese, who came along with his principal officers, senior traditional chiefs from Iragbiji town, as well as staff from AFUED Directorate of Information and Public Relations and Security department to mention but few.
